What is the Government of Canada's wage subsidy measure?

The federal government plans to provide a wage subsidy of up to 75% to encourage businesses to retain their employees.

This subsidy will last for a maximum of 3 months, retroactive to March 15, 2020.

This relief will apply to tax balances due, as well as instalments, under Part I of the Income Tax Act. No interest or penalties will accumulate on these amounts during this period.

Businesses will be able to benefit immediately from this support measure by reducing the amount of income tax withheld from their employees’ remuneration.
