What is the Government of Canada's tax deferral measure?

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will defer until August 31, 2020, the payment of income tax amounts that become payable on or after today and before September 2020.

This relief will apply to tax balances due, as well as instalments, under Part I of the Income Tax Act.

No interest or penalties will accumulate on these amounts during this period.

The CRA will not be contacting any small or medium-sized businesses to open GST/HST or income tax post-assessment audits for the next four weeks. For the majority of businesses, the CRA will temporarily suspend audit interaction between taxpayers and officials.
