Construction begins on affordable housing project Maison sur le Lac
Lac-des-Aigles, April 14, 2025
The Government of Québec, together with the Fonds de solidarité FTQ, Ville de Lac-des-Aigles and Habitations économiques Lac-des-Aigles today announced the start of construction of Maison sur le Lac, an 18-unit building for modest-income seniors, singles and couples on Principale Street in Lac-des-Aigles. Occupancy is scheduled for the end of the year.
The $7.4 million project has been made possible by financial support of more than $3.4 million from the Capital Social d'Investissement Immobilier (CSII) fund, almost $3 million from the Government of Québec further to the agreement between the government and the Fonds de solidarité FTQ, $500,000 from Ville de Lac-des-Aigles, and contributions from other partners and donors.
Quotes:
"As I've often said, we need to innovate to build more and build faster, especially during the current housing crisis. The launch of this project, which is extremely important to the Lac-des-Aigles community, stems from the agreement between the government and the Fonds de solidarité FTQ and shows once again that we are taking concrete action, together with municipalities and housing agencies, to provide better housing for Quebecers."
France-Élaine Duranceau, Minister Responsible for Housing
"I am proud to see that we are using all the resources at our disposal to improve the quality of life of low-income households in the Témiscouata region. The contribution of the governments, Ville de Lac-des-Aigles and our other partners shows that we can be agile and join forces to build quality living environments."
Amélie Dionne, MNA for Rivière-du-Loup–Témiscouata (including Les Basques)
"Maison sur le lac is a long-awaited project that will make a big difference for our community and we are delighted to be one of the many partners who believed in it. We are thrilled to see it come to fruition."
Pierre Bossé, Mayor, Lac-des-Aigles
"Our support for the Habitations économiques Lac-des-Aigles project is in line with our aim to meet the needs of social and affordable housing stakeholders striving to ensure that all types of households have access to a decent place to live. Over the years, we have financed the construction or renovation of more than 10,000 affordable housing units in Québec, a record we are proud of and one that will continue to grow due in large part to our partnership with the Government of Québec."
Martin Raymond, President and CEO, Fonds immobilier de solidarité FTQ
"The Association des groupes de ressources techniques du Québec (AGRTQ), the agent of the Capital Social d'Investissement immobilier (CSII) fund, is proud to have contributed to the community housing project spearheaded by Les Habitations économiques de Lac-des-Aigles. This achievement is a magnificent testament to the concerted efforts of many financial and public partners. Innovation, creativity and openness on the part of everyone involved have produced a remarkable result. Kudos to GRT Les Habitations populaires de l'Est, which helped the group achieve its goals."
Tommy Théberge, General Manager, AGRTQ
"We have found the right partners to bring the Maison sur le Lac project to fruition. Not only will it provide quality, affordable housing for seniors, families and single people, it is close to essential services in our town centre. This is a major project for our municipality that has required enormous collective strength, and I would like to commend the resilience of my peers who have been involved from the outset. I'm especially proud of this project, which will have a positive impact on our local economy."
André Bossé, President, Habitations économiques Lac-des-Aigles
Project highlights:
- CSII is a $151-million fund endowed by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the Société d'habitation du Québec, the Fonds immobilier de solidarité FTQ, Ivanhoé Cambridge, the Lucie and André Chagnon Foundation, Fondaction, the Mirella and Lino Saputo Foundation and the J. Armand Bombardier Foundation. Each project requires a contribution from the community. Administered by the Association des groupes de ressources techniques du Québec, the fund provides loans to housing co-operatives, non-profit housing agencies and housing authorities with the aim of financing some 1,500 affordable housing units in Québec.
- As part of the innovative partnership agreement between the Québec government and the Fonds de solidarité FTQ, 2,250 social and affordable housing units will be created between now and 2027. Most of the projects will involve new construction; the remainder will entail the acquisition and renovation of existing buildings with a view to ensuring long-term rent affordability.
