Interloge Acquires 79 Affordable Housing Units in Ahuntsic-Cartierville

Montreal, September 25, 2023

Interloge, the Québec government, the Fonds de solidarité FTQ and the City of Montréal have announced the completion of the Lachapelle project, an acquisition-renovation of two 79-unit buildings aimed at preserving long-term affordability. The buildings are located at 11945 and 11955 Rue Lachapelle, in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough.

The $17-million project was financed by the Fonds capital pour TOIT, created by the Québec government and the Fonds de solidarité FTQ, and the City of Montréal.

The Interloge team will preserve and renovate 28 studios and 51 one- to three-bedroom units in a prime Montréal location, well served by public transit and services, including the future light-rail (REM) station of Bois-Franc.

Quotes

"The financing of this project demonstrates our ongoing efforts to maintain housing affordability. This initiative, led by a dynamic local organization, also demonstrates how important it is for all the players in the housing sector to work together and provide community-specific solutions. With projects like this, and by working differently, we can meet Quebecers' current and future housing needs."

France-Élaine Duranceau,

Minister Responsible for Housing

"Organizations like Interloge contribute to Québec's strong, innovative housing ecosystem, particularly in Montréal. Their projects and initiatives to preserve and develop affordable housing are lasting solutions to our housing crisis, and we want to see many more like them. The Lachapelle project in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough contributes to the inclusiveness and affordability of the neighbourhood, which will experience strong real estate pressure with the REM's arrival. I would like to commend the efforts and contributions of all the stakeholders and partners who made this project possible.

Benoit Dorais,

Executive Committee Vice-Chair, responsible for housing, real estate strategy, and legal affairs, and Sud-Ouest borough Mayor

"This project is in line with our goal to offer a solution that meets social and community real estate needs in Québec. Over the years, the Fonds immobilier de solidarité FTQ has backed the construction or renovation of more than 8,000 affordable housing units in Québec. We're proud of this achievement and plan to grow that number even more. We would like to congratulate Interloge for its commitment to addressing today's housing challenges and enabling households to have access to quality housing that fits their budget."

Martin Raymond,

President and CEO, Fonds immobilier de solidarité FTQ

"Interloge has been improving the quality of life of modest-income households for that past 45 years by offering affordable housing. With the Lachapelle project, we are adding 79 units to our portfolio, which now stands at 925. The project also makes it possible to offer a complete living environment served by public transit. Those who live here will be able to save on the cost of rent and some will also see a reduction in transportation costs, two major items in their budget. Since being taken over by Interloge, the two buildings on Rue Lachapelle have been almost fully rented, something of which our team is very proud. This acquisition would not have been possible without the commitment of our partners, to whom we are very grateful."
