When should I apply to open a LIF?

When you are ready to disburse your LIRA or other supplemental retirement savings plan (e.g., LRSP). You can open a LIF at any age.

However, it's a good idea to do so when your income and tax burden are lower.

Although LIFs are usually opened when you retire, you can open one sooner if you need the funds. Your LIRA or LRSP must be transferred to a LIF no later than December 31 of the year in which you turn 71. Our FlexiFonds advisors are here to help you determine the best time to open your LIF.

Give us a call, and let's talk about your situation!
