How can I withdraw funds from my TFSA?

To withdraw an amount of $5,000 or less, you can submit a request through your online account. For a higher amount, please contact us.

You may withdraw money from your TFSA at any time. There are no withdrawal conditions or transaction fees on FlexiFonds products.

Please note that processing time is at least three business days, depending on the financial institution where the funds will be deposited.

Withdrawing $5,000 or less

  1. Log in to your online account.
  2. Go to your TFSA details.
  3. Under the available actions, select Withdraw an amount.

Withdrawing more than $5,000

Tax rules for TFSA withdrawals

The rules governing TFSA contribution room are set by the Canada Revenue Agency.

When you withdraw funds from a TFSA, you recover an equivalent amount of contribution room as of January 1 of the following year.

Here's an example:

In 2025, Chloé withdrew $9,000 from her TFSA.

On January 1, 2026, she can contribute up to $16,000. This amount includes:

  • the $9,000 she withdrew in 2025
  • plus $7,000 in new annual contribution room for 2026.
