What is a local representative (LR)?

The Fonds’ local representatives (LRs) are promoting, on a voluntary basis, the Fonds in their workplace.

Their primary objective is to make their colleagues aware of the importance of saving for retirement. Over and above promoting the Fonds, they play an educational role that benefits everyone.

Profile

Who are the local representatives and how are they recruited?

LRs are active union members designated by their union to represent the Fonds in their workplace.

  • All LRs are Fonds shareholders.
  • The network currently has over 2,100 LRs.
  • They are members of unions affiliated to the FTQ or of Fonds partner unions or organizations such as the Centrale des syndicats du Québec (CSQ) and the Fédération interprofessionnelle de la santé du Québec (FIQ).

Mandate

What is the LRs’ mandate?

LRs are essentially mandated to promote the Fonds and its mission in their workplace.

In practice, this means:

  • Making workers aware of the importance of retirement savings;
  • Encouraging their colleagues to contribute to the Fonds and therefore contribute to maintaining and creating jobs in Québec;
  • Promoting payroll deductions as the ideal subscription method;
  • Offering current services to shareholders;
  • Arranging sessions and running information booths;
  • Distributing promotional materials.

Training

What training is provided to local representatives?

Upon joining the LR network, new recruits attend an initial four-day training session. Afterwards, they must complete a rigorous continuing education program and, in particular, participate in three annual meetings.
