What’s the origin of the Fonds de solidarité FTQ?

The Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du Québec created the Fonds as a response to the economic crisis of the early ’80s when Quebec was in the grips of a deep recession.

Times were tough, and the idea back then was to call on people to invest their savings to help local Quebec businesses and prevent massive layoffs.
