HAN-LOGEMENT INVESTS $1.3 MILLION TO BUILD AN 8 UNIT ADAPTED BUILDING IN RICHMOND

Magog, November 6, 2019 – Han-Logement managing director Paul Champagne is pleased to officially begin construction of an eight-unit building adapted to the needs of individuals with a physical or intellectual disability. Located at 80 Rue Craig in Richmond, the building entails an investment of $1.3 million and will be ready for occupancy in July 2020.

Said Mr. Champagne: “Recognized for building modern, good-quality accessible housing with a human dimension, Han-Logement is constantly being invited to build similar projects outside Magog and Sherbrooke. The tremendous involvement of the city of Richmond and support of its business community and citizens played a huge role in the success of this project.”

The city of Richmond assumed a leadership role in this endeavour, working together with Han-Logement at all stages of the project, including connecting the water and sewer systems, facilitating negotiations with service providers and minimizing delays during the project study phase.

Richmond Mayor Bertrand Ménard said, “Our municipal council members and I are very pleased to see this Han-Logement project built in Richmond as, it will meet the needs of a vulnerable clientele.  I would also like to thank the generous sponsors who made this all possible.”

Arnaud Duchêne, investment advisor at the Fonds immobilier de solidarité FTQ said, “We are currently working with our partner-developers on about 60 projects across Québec, in all sectors. We consider it important to participate in local development and especially in projects that provide proper housing for households with special needs. The goal of our partnership with Han-Logement is to build 100 units in the Estrie region.  These 8 new units are on top of 24 already built.”

This type of project requires several direct partners’ involvement. In addition to the participation of eight generous local donors, including Caisse Desjardins du Val-Saint-François, Han-Logement would like to underscore the sizable contribution of Fiducie de Placement Immobilier Propriétés DeChoix and Provigo (Maxi), which together donated the land.  These donors understand that everyone needs to do their part to help disadvantaged residents in their community.

With 15 buildings totalling 97 units in Magog and Sherbrooke, Han-Logement is expanding its development area in response to a crying need for accessible housing in Estrie.
