Longueuil, June 19, 2019 – In the past year, the Fonds régionaux de solidarité FTQ Montérégie invested $3 million in Construction Sorel, $1 million in Construction CPB and $500,000 in JCB Construction Canada. These investments were three of thirteen made in 2018-2019, bringing the total to over $15.5 million for the FRS Montérégie.

Construction Sorel is on a roll

Construction Sorel is a general contractor specializing in concrete structures and formwork, and in the manufacture of concrete domes. Since its creation in 1982, the family-owned business has completed many large projects and built a reputation that has enabled it to secure even larger contracts and become the preferred supplier of Rio Tinto, ArcelorMittal, Suncor, Shell, the Québec Ministry of Transport, Hydro-Québec and others. The $3 million loan granted by the FRS Montérégie will support numerous projects in progress.

“We have several projects underway at the same time, which is why we are grateful to the Fonds régionaux de la Montérégie for believing in us and sharing our vision by helping us so we can achieve our goals,” said Construction Sorel’s vice-president, Sylvain Descheneaux.

Construction CPB is in a growth spurt

In 2015, Gestion Pierre Bourdon, the owner of Construction CPB, a general contractor specializing in new construction and turnkey projects, acquired Construction Serbec, a general building contractor serving a mainly institutional and commercial clientele. Operating under the Construction CPB banner, they secured sizable contracts together. The $1 million investment by the FRS Montérégie will be used to support their operations and growth projects.

“We’re on a roll and are glad we can count on the financial support of the Fonds régionaux de solidarité FTQ Montérégie to move our development projects forward and consolidate our leadership in our field,” said Pierre Bourdon, president of CPB Construction.

JCB Construction Canada focusing on growth and technological innovation

Serving a large portion of the Canadian commercial, industrial and institutional construction markets from its headquarters in Brossard, JCB is committed to customer satisfaction and continuous improvement with a view to carving out a place of choice for itself among the industry’s major players. The $500,000 injection from the FRS Montérégie will be used mainly to support its growth and technological development.

“We continue to grow by developing new markets and integrating new technologies to increase productivity at all levels of the business. The opening of an office in Toronto and our migration to the BIM work method are concrete examples of projects related to this investment. The expertise that the FRS Montérégie brings to guide us through this process will be extremely helpful,” said Louis Lavigne, president of JCB Construction Canada.

“Our investment teams are just as interested in companies in the traditional sector, such as construction, as they are in the new economy. Their common denominator is that they all demonstrate vision and develop promising projects to ensure their company’s growth and expansion. Construction Sorel, Construction CPB and JCB Construction Canada are great examples of this, and we’re proud to back such dynamic entrepreneurs. These companies make a tangible contribution to our positive results in the regional economy,” said in turn Johanne Pilon, Regional Vice-President, Fonds régionaux de solidarité FTQ Montérégie.

A well-entrenched and healthy FRS network

In fiscal 2018-2019, the Fonds régionaux de solidarité FTQ invested a total of $120,662,030 in 117 Québec businesses. This was an exceptionally strong year in terms of investments and number of files handled since the creation of the Fonds régionaux in 1996.

“Thanks to the Fonds régionaux, we’ve been able to develop a strong network on the ground and boost our presence in every region of Québec. Our investment teams and board members are very close to the business communities they serve. They are therefore well placed to understand local issues and propose financing solutions that meet the needs of the region’s entrepreneurs. These solid results attest to the strength of our network and our contribution to the vitality of the regional economy,” concluded Luc Pinard, President and CEO, Fonds régionaux de solidarité FTQ.
