Opération Relève Québec 2011 - Fonds de solidarité FTQ is involved in Business Succession Workshop-Conferences

Montréal, February 15, 2011 – With business succession posing a growing challenge for Québec, the Fonds de solidarité FTQ (the “Fonds”) is proud to present Opération Relève Québec 2011 to provide owners ready to hand over the reins and those interested in taking over with the tools required to make the transition.

Beginning this month and continuing through the year, a series of one-day succession workshop-conferences will take place in 13 cities across Québec. Each session will begin with a morning workshop for owners ready to pass the mantle. A luncheon conference will follow for both owners and potential successors, where a debate will be held on the challenges of business transfers and on strategies for success. The luncheon theme will be Entretenons l’espoir! Des moyens pour appuyer notre relève en affaires.  The afternoon will be devoted to future successors, with workshops designed to demonstrate the opportunities and benefits of taking over an existing business.

“The continuity of Québec enterprises has always been a big concern for the Fonds,” said Gaétan Morin, Executive Vice-President of investments at the Fonds. “A new generation of entrepreneurs and leaders is today being called upon to take over the reins at an unprecedented rate. We are therefore proud to offer our expertise in this field and share examples of business transfers completed by the Fonds and its regional network. This is precisely what Gabriel Nadon, the manager of our business transfer portfolio and resident expert, will do as a speaker at these workshop-conferences.”

A successful business transfer requires good planning to ensure proper management of the financial and legal aspects. However, the human dimension must also be considered as this is often one of the main obstacles facing owners. The experts at Opération Relève Québec 2011 will explore all the facets of business transfers with the participants to ensure a successful transition.

The workshop-conference series will begin on February 23 in Dorval and end on October 4 in Sherbrooke. Gabriel Nadon has set up a blog on the subject (http://bloguereleve.fondsftq.com/), which will be updated throughout the series.
