Mr. Laberge was worried about Quebec’s deteriorating economic situation and proposed, with the backing of the Quebec Finance Minister at the time, that a labour fund be created to make it possible for investors to save money for retirement. For the most part, the money invested was earmarked to support Quebec businesses and help maintain jobs for local Quebec workers.
Why is the FTQ involved?
Louis Laberge, then president of the Fédération des Travailleurs du Québec, came up with the idea to set up the Fonds de solidarité FTQ in 1983.
