Québec’s second most inhabited region, Montérégie has been posting one of the province’s strongest demographic growth rates for more than three decades. And year in, year out, its economic development index outperforms its regional counterparts, mainly due to a robust labour market and resulting revenues.
Montérégie accounts for close to 30% of the province’s jobs involving complex processing, for example, printing and machinery and transportation equipment, and more than 25% of the jobs in consumer goods manufacturing. Its other niches of excellence include biotechnology, agri-food, ferrous metal processing, the fabrication of microelectronic components and film production.
