Lanaudière has been the provincial leader in demographic growth for over 30 years. Its two main cities, Terrebonne and Repentigny, are home to almost 40% of the region’s population. Lanaudière has also enjoyed strong employment growth lately.
The third largest agricultural region in Québec, Lanaudière has a vibrant agri-food sector. The construction industry also drives the economy, along with consumer products manufacturing and the service sector.
In terms of goods production, plastics and rubber manufacturing are growing, as are fabricated metal products, machinery manufacturing and the furniture industry. Retail, financial, real estate and insurance services are also key components of the regional economy.
