In November 2012, the Quebec Mineral Exploration Association (AEMQ) handed out its annual awards, and Gaétan Morin, Executive Vice-President, Corporate Development and Investments at the Fonds de solidarité FTQ received the 2012 Economic Actor in Mineral Exploration Award. This award is given to an individual or an organization of the business and/or finance and/or law domain that has significantly contributed to the mineral exploration industry.
The AEMQ recognizes and honours the dynamism and entrepreneurship of individuals and companies involved in the development of Québec’s mining exploration industry.
Mr. Morin, who has worked for the Fonds since 1989, has a master’s degree in economic geology and studied geology and finance at Université du Québec à Montréal.
It should also be noted that the Fonds de solidarité FTQ has worked with other institutions active in the mining sector to formalize guidelines for practices related to sustainable development and social responsibility in mining project management (see the guidelines).
